Selection of our dental hygienists’ advices
Brushing with electric toothbrush
Brush for 2-4 minutes with electric brush twice a day every day.
Hold the electric brush towards the teeth gently and let the brush clean them, don’t brush too hard. Gently massage the gums as well. Move the brush around the teeth by following the gum line. Don’t miss any surfaces of the tooth, brush the palate/lingual and chewing sides as well. Don’t push the brush too hard, let it work on its own.
Electric toothbrush recommended by our surgery: Philips Sonicare
Brushing with manual toothbrush
The adequate time of brushing is 4-6 minutes twice a day every day. Hold the toothbrush gently, massage the teeth rather than scrubbing them.
Labial surface (the surface towards the lip):
Cyclic cleaning: Technique that can be used on the labial surface (the surface towards the lip) of the teeth. It is important to massage the gums as well as the teeth so you can definitely get rid of debris.
The inside surface (towards the tongue on lower teeth and towards the palate on upper ones)
„Sweeping” movement: The cleaning technique of the inside surface of teeth. Place the brush on the margin of the gums of molar teeth and sweep the debris from the gums towards the teeth. With this technique you can avoid gum receeding which is caused by scrubbing the teeth from the left to the right. The inside surface of incisors and canines should be brushed with a vertical movement. In this case we clean the teeth from the gum margin towards the edge of the teeth.
The chewing surface:
Clean the chewing surfaces of molar teeth with a cyclic and scrubbing movement (scrubbing is only allowed on the chewing surface, however there is no need to put too much pressure on it).
Free tooth surfaces (the surface that does not meet any other teeth):
We musn’t foret about the back surface of our last teeth either. The teeth next to gaps also have free surfaces as they don’t have a neighbouring tooth.
Scaling, tartar (calculus) removal:
Gingivitis caused by tartar and plaque is very common. Hower initially it does not seem to be serious it can also lead to the loss of our teeth. You can preven bigger problems by having regular scaling and having gingivitis treated. In order to avoid tartar build up the best thing to do is to have regular, profesional scaling.
Tartar is formed of debris remained on the teeth sometimes in short sometimes in long time. Tartar has to be removed as it provides adequate environment for bacterias that can cause gum bleeding and periodontitis. We can prevent our teeth becoming loose or losing healthy teeth that are not decayed buta re periodontally involved (mening that there is no structure that can hold them).
By having regular scaling we can avoid discolouration (caused by tartar), and bad breath as well.
Our laser treatments do not involve the removal of previous fillings and anaesthetic injection is also required in some cases. The different advantages of laser dental treatments are experianced in different extents in different stages of the treatment. Our aim is to provide treatments without any pain in a calm environment.
